Diamond and Dazzle: Message

The mentality toward so-called "trouble children" so easily defaults to an attitude of surrender and hopelessness. People see someone with a stubborn unwillingness to learn or a fundamental problem with attitude or behavior and think "that kid'll never amount to anything." As a random bystander, it's an easy and almost instinctual thought, but as a teacher, thinking like that just isn't an option. 

Let's be honest: Twilight's not getting anywhere as a princess without a great deal of patience, and what better patience tester could she find than Diamond Tiara? Diamond's little obsession with the princess may seem a tad overzealous, but it's also given Twilight ample time to see how persistent Diamond can be. Twilight's confident that redirecting that persistence to something positive could really help shape Diamond's life for the better. It's just a matter of putting up with her until she can pull that off.
